The food pantry is between Walnut Street and Elm Street and between the Next to New shop and Kum & Go (just a few blocks south of the Shrine Mosque on Kimbrough)
- Regardless of
- where you live;
- your income; or
- whether you receive government commodities
People who live in our primary service area (zip code 65806), in the center city area of Springfield, between National Avenue and Kansas Expressway and Chestnut Expressway and Grand Avenue are eligible to receive groceries from the food pantry once every calendar month.
Heads of households (including single people) who are students at MSU, OTC, Drury, or Evangel are also eligible to receive food every calendar month, regardless of where you live.
Members of our funding/sponsoring churches, with a letter from your pastor stating you are a member, are also eligible once every calendar month.
Homeless individuals may receive a sack lunch when we are open. Or, homeless individuals may receive regular groceries if they have somewhere they can keep the food and cook it. No one can receive a sack lunch and regular groceries on the same day, however.
Stop by the pantry when we are open. Sack lunches are given outside in back of the building and regular groceries are available by entering the front door facing Kimbrough. To enforce social distancing, if a client is already in the pantry when you open the front door, you will be asked to wait outside until the client already in the pantry finishes being interviewed.
Everyone coming into the pantry is required to wear a mask. Only one person per family will be admitted to the building unless a translator is needed. We are following social distancing procedures, so anyone coming in will sit at the table to give their information to the interviewer. You will need to verbally give to the interviewer the name and date of birth for everyone in your household you want food for. During the pandemic we are not requiring you to bring in Social Security cards, mail, or other items we would normally handle to verify your information.
If you arrive in a vehicle, there is a large parking lot in the back that can be easily accessed from Walnut Street. If you are arriving by City Utilities bus, the #5 bus from southeast Springfield has a stop at the Kum & Go next to us. If you are coming from the Transit Center, #12 stops near Kimbrough, on Cherry. If you are coming on foot for groceries, please bring a cart and cloth bags if you have them. Our front door is handicap accessible via a ramp.
